Effective Tips in Writing a Press Release

A Press Release is an announcement of a newsworthy event issued to the press that may give a lot of traffic to your website. It can give you massive amount of backlinks in a very short time. Here are some guidelines in making a Press Release:

1. Is your news Newsworthy? A Press Release can be an event that correlates to your industry, products and services, organization or an event. It should provide the media useful, interesting and accurate information that answers the questions who, what, when, where, and why. Illustrate your story to your reader. Use real life examples so they can relate to it and understand it more quickly. It should be helpful for the readers and should not sound like an advertisement. Even though it can acquire you more clients, advertisement should not be your focus. Always remember that the press is not interested in helping you make money or to increase traffic in your site. They just want to know the information inside.

2. Start with a strong headline. Your headline and the first paragraph should tell the story. The rest will provide the details. This is a very decisive moment considering you only have a matter of seconds to grab the attention of your readers. They should be very effective, as they are the most important.

3. Stick to the facts and be concise. Tell the truth. Avoid fabricating information, fluff, exaggerations, too much adjectives and flowery language. Naturally, journalists are very skeptical. You might hurt your own credibility if the news is too good to be true. You should also choose your words carefully. Only use enough words that would tell your story. Wordiness can distract the readers from the main focus of the story. Avoid using clichés and jargon that may not be understood by your readers.

4. Study a little about SEO. Just study and understand its basics. It well help you bring the press to your release. You also have a chance to get indexed in Google. So take time to research and construct your keywords but avoid spamming them.

5. Provide as much contact information as possible and be available to the press. If your Press Release is newsworthy, the press would surely ask for more information so include every possible contact information as possible. Be prepared to answer questions and inquiries.

6. Put three # symbols centered at the bottom of the page to indicate the end of the Press Release. This is a modern Journalistic Standard.
